I currently have one of those crappy particle board and metal stands (it has 3 legs with wheels and is very common to see on amazon.com etc.) Anyway, I want one that is easier to use and adjust but doesn’t take up much room. I really want it to be easier to swing out of the way when i want to get up and easy to lower closer to my lap while I am sitting for more comfortable use. I have seen the “Air desk” and would be willing to pay the heafty price but I read some bad reviews. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Used the Air Desk and like it? Help this is so annoying!

I’d highly recommending Dell for their laptops. You can compare different systems. You can configure to your hearts delight, w/o buying and save potential configurations to your wishlist.

I found them to be an excellent source and love their laptops – used them for about 10 years.

I want to get my dad a mini laptop for his birthday that he can use up on our sail boat for checking whether conditions and other things. I was wondering, what is the best mini laptop out there that he can connect to the internet to without a wifi connection?
Most of the time he would be using it in the marina, or 1 or 2 miles off shore. We have outlets on the boat for charging it, so battery life (although important) isn’t super necessary.
And, it isn’t the ocean, it is Lake Michigan.

Well, he could have the beat mini in the world, but if he’s far from shore and can’t get a connection, he’s SOL. Even some kind of 3G network would require him to be close enough to shore to get a signal (3G is fed from cell towers).

My roommate recently switch to an iPhone just for this reason. He has some pretty neat weather apps and he used the phone pretty extensively when sailing a boat up from Florida a couple of weeks ago. But, he had periods when the cell signal was too weak to make out out to the craft.

Anyway, consider this first. Whatever you get, get a spare battery.

I bought a replacement battery for my laptop. It was working fine until i realized the only reason it was working fine was because it was either plugged in or sitting on something.

When I lift up the laptop or take pressure off the bottom the battery no longer has contact with the laptop because it isnt quite big enough. Is there anything I can do, or something I am missing?

I did order the right battery, but it was a knockoff.

return it you say it was a knockoff imagine the consequences if it bursts into flames. i have seen it happen. not to mention the damage you do when it suddenly loses power.

ive had the same problems because i love music but so i went thru 5 sets uv speakers and the only ones i really like r my current ones and the Creative brand they r small vertical three way speakers and sound very good

Well i have a laptop its quite new but its not gonna work anymore and therefore i am forced to sell it for about £50-£100 for spares on e-bay when i paid about six times that’s amount. Can i keep the vista disc i mean its faulty not like they will need it. Also if you know anything about computers and for some reason the vista disc won’t work on another computer please tell me!

Yes, you can keep the disc since you own the license for it. And yes, it will work on other computers, providing it’s actually a Vista Operating System disk and not a System Restore disk from the laptop manufacturer :)

I need a laptop for college. Preferably less than 1100. I extremely want a mac book but unfortunately parents aren’t sold on it. I’ve heard its the best in virus protection, lasting longest, updating not needed as much and its the fastest.

A dell is another choice, but I’ve heard it crashes more and slower.

I want a very fast computer that can stand all of my photos and music.

for 1100 it doesn’t really matter what you get as long as it has a decent processor, ram, and good hard disk memory. I saw a few laptops at best buy on sale that had decent specs and were under 1k. What you want is:

2.4ghz dual core CPU
ATLEAST 3 gigs or ram
and about 250 gigs of ram should be fine.

look at the toshibas at best buy…they have nice stats and look nice on the outside.

installing a different operating system on a computer built for xp is downgrading not upgrading
